to Mental Health

Behavioral Learning Institute was created for people who know something needs to change, but are not sure what kind of help they need, why past support has not worked, or what to do next.
Mental health care can feel overwhelming, especially when you are trying to make decisions without knowing what questions to ask. BLI exists to make that process clearer.
We offer private, educational consultation, assessment, and coaching designed to help individuals and families better understand what is happening, identify what may be missing, and move forward with more confidence.v

BLI takes a different approach to mental health.
We believe insight matters, but insight alone is not enough. Understanding yourself is important — but real progress happens when that understanding is translated into action.
That is why our work is focused on clarity, fit, education, and next steps. We help you better understand your concerns, evaluate whether your current support is actually working, and identify what kind of provider, care, or strategy may be the right fit.
This is not about endless rehashing. It is about helping you make more informed decisions and move forward with a clearer plan.

BLI works with individuals and families who want a more thoughtful, direct, and personalized approach to mental health support.
Our clients often include:
People who know they need help, but are not sure what kind
Individuals who have tried therapy before and still feel stuck
People who want help understanding whether their current provider is the right fit
Parents or family members trying to support a loved one
Individuals looking for practical, educational coaching focused on change and follow-through
You do not need to have everything figured out before reaching out. If you know something is not working, that is enough to begin.

Behavioral Learning Institute is led by Dr. Charles Roberts, a behavioral health expert with experience across inpatient, residential, outpatient, and leadership settings.
His work is grounded in years of helping people navigate complex mental health needs, identify effective treatment options, and understand where care can break down when the fit is wrong.
Dr. Roberts created BLI to give individuals and families access to that expertise in a more direct, practical, and personalized way — so they can stop guessing and start with clarity.
We believe understanding your mind is the first step — but real change happens when you know how to apply that knowledge. BLI is here to bridge the gap between insight and action.
Most people are never taught how to navigate mental health care. They try one approach, feel stuck, and begin to wonder if something is wrong with them.
But mental health is not one-size-fits-all. The right provider, specialty, strategy, and level of support matter.
Behavioral Learning Institute was created to help individuals and families understand what kind of help may actually fit. Through private assessment, consultation, and educational coaching, BLI helps you step back, make sense of what is happening, and move forward with greater clarity.
We focus on behavioral learning: understanding the patterns that keep you stuck, identifying what may be missing, and turning insight into action.
About BLI
Dr. Charles Roberts
Ed. D, LPCC-S, LPC , LMHC, LICDC-CS, DBT-C
Behavioral Learning Institute is led by Dr. Charles Roberts, a behavioral health expert whose experience spans the mental health system from multiple angles: direct care, specialized treatment, clinical leadership, education, and program development.
When someone is trying to find the right kind of help, the challenge is rarely as simple as “find a therapist.” The right next step may depend on the concern, the level of need, the treatment history, the provider’s specialty, the setting, the approach, and whether the current support is actually designed to address the root issue.
Dr. Roberts brings the kind of clinical perspective that comes from working across inpatient, residential, outpatient, and specialized care environments. His background includes direct patient care in inpatient and residential settings at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital and Lindner Center of Hope, along with extensive specialized training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy. He has experience with individual, family, couples, and group therapy, and with complex concerns including chronic suicidal thinking, self-harm, eating disorders, substance abuse, family conflict, and behavioral patterns that keep people stuck.
He also brings the perspective of an educator and clinical leader. Dr. Roberts holds a Doctorate in Counselor Education and a Master’s degree in Counseling from the University of Cincinnati, where he has also served as an adjunct professor. He is licensed in Ohio as a Supervising Professional Clinical Counselor and a Licensed Independent Chemical Dependency Counselor Clinical Supervisor, and he is also a Nationally Certified Counselor.
Through BLI, Dr. Roberts uses that depth of experience to help individuals and families make sense of care options before they spend more time guessing. His role is to help you understand what kind of support may actually fit, what questions to ask, what may be missing, and how to take the next step with greater confidence.
